In 2024, Narrative Initiative partnered with The Burke Foundation and design firm In Good Company to create The Courage In Care: Community Doulas and the Joyful Revolution of Birth, an exhibit celebrating the transformative work of community doulas and the essential role they play in advancing birth justice.
Through stories, imagery, and lived experience, The Courage In Care invited audiences to confront the realities of the maternal health crisis while uplifting the Black and Brown communities most impacted by it. The exhibit sought to deepen public understanding of the crisis, elevate the voices of doulas as integral members of maternity care teams, and inspire change within healthcare systems and policy spaces.
As the political landscape continues to shift, finding creative ways to engage and activate people remains vital. We hope the findings and insights from this report will serve as a resource for organizations exploring how exhibitions and storytelling can drive social change.
