Texas Floods: Narrative Analysis

This analysis is part of Narrative Initiative’s ongoing work to catalyze alignment of climate and immigration movement communicators.

On July 4, as many families were starting their holiday weekends by the Guadelupe River in Kerr County, Texas, devastating floods swept away houses, trailers, campsites and people. The death toll stands at more than 100, including dozens of children.

To get a sense of trends in the coverage of the floods, we did a quick analysis. It isn’t comprehensive, but it does show in broad strokes how the flood was framed, what was absent from the early coverage and what we should keep tracking in discussions about flood preparation, warning systems, displacement, recovery, fairness and accountability.
