Virginia Organizing is a statewide organization with seventeen chapters dedicated to building political power with communities across to address issues that affect the quality of their lives. Virginia Organizing’s “solution-oriented” approach encourages the participation of individuals who have not been civically engaged before to participate and grow their leadership.
The case study highlights Virginia Organizing’s work and policy impacts by challenging a wide range of issues—from “ban the box” efforts expanding employment access for formerly incarcerated people, to hyperlocal campaigns to cover a historically offensive mural depicting African Americans, to their more recent direct action effort by delivering coal to elected representatives’ offices to protest the 2025 healthcare cuts. Narrative Initative did not engage in the advocacy activity discussed in the case study.
